About Gabe Ostley

Gabe Ostley is the artist for DC Comics' The Hammer, as well as Hero Action Persons, Snatcher Bodies, and My Date With Medusa, published by Devil's Due Digital. His most recent comic work is MOTH, published by The Cincinnati Review. He was born in Minnesota and graduated from the Savannah College of Art & Design with a BFA in Sequential Art. After working in illustration and licensed characters in New York City, he moved to Hong Kong to the post of Artist-in-Residence for Yew Chung Education Foundation. His work has expanded to include murals and large scale sculptural works in addition to paintings in exhibitions around Hong Kong. Recently he has worked in animation for Filmages. He's also storyboarded, filmed, and edited several documentaries and short films for Yew Chung.

Artist Statement

I am an Anarchist Cartoonist Samurai. Graphical language and the distortion of time and space through imaginative devices are components I strive to use in my work.

Summary

Multi-faceted work in a variety of media. Experience as an artist-in-residence in an international school, film maker, animator, comic book writer and artist, character designer, caricature artist, and editorial illustrator. Collaborations with teams of artists on every stage of production through many forms of media.

2009 | Tangled: The Art of Hair

Exhibition La Belle Salon, G/F, Shop No. 1 Glenealy Tower No. 1, Central, Hong Kong

Completed a drawing series called ‘Bald Spotting’ for a group exhibition at a hair salon in downtown Hong Kong with artists Emily Eldridge, Haruka Ashida Ostley, Wesley Terpstra, Ashley Terpstra, and Rico Tsui.

Exhibition at Philia Lounge, Central, Hong Kong

A large series of paintings and collages centered around the idea of what we say about ourselves with the t-shirts we wear. Included work from artists Emily Eldridge, Haruka Ashida Ostley, Wesley Terpstra, and Ashley Terpstra.

A webcomic series that won 4th place in February of 2008 and was later a selection for the Zuda Comics Invitational in July of that same year. I created, wrote, and did the artwork for this short series.
