About Leah Clough

My work encourages the imagination and alludes to the more animal, alluring and seductive side of plant life. By using shapes and textures that can be found in exotic flora and marine organisms I create drawings of hybrid and embellished flowers that seem to expand once they hit the paper and grow into a mass of bio fiction greenery. My main medium is using the very ordinary but highly effective gel pen which when used with intensity and intricacy produces a striking and etched like effect.

My most recent drawings are built up of past work, which originate from a collection of sources ranging from poems and stories, to photos, found images and sketches. They pay homage botanical illustrations and their extreme sense of beauty and detail that goes into them.

Artist Statement

I was born in the busy bubble and fast paced city of Hong Kong and grew up there until 2003. I then made the university leap to England where I studied art and lived for the next nine years exhibiting, working and trading at handmade markets.

I am now based back home in Hong Kong where I work at a creative, light filled art studio for kids and persevere with my artwork in my free time. My focus on drawings contiues to develop with the aim of producing a series inspired by this ever changing city. These drawings evolove with each one made, and it is always about enhancing and embelishing detail of lines.

I currently have my cards stocked at the Ellerman floral boutique in Sheung Wan, while you can find selected prints and drawings on online art platform - Mischmasch.
