About Chu Victor Chi Kuen

Chi Kuen Victor Chu (b. 1989), a graphic art and illustration artist from Toronto and now resides in Hong Kong. He received his Bachelor of Art degree at University of Toronto – St. George, majoring in Visual Studies and Fine Art History. His art focuses on transforming and reconstructing complex social concepts and common objects into a geometric-like presentation. His works simply show the possibility and simplicity of how a two-dimensional plane is generated and constructed from a one-dimensional thread.

Victor aims to share a graphical perspective of lines in a complicated appearance but a neat and pithy style. Beginning each piece with irregular and un-disciplinarily arrangement of lines would further develop into some common objects or patterns we usually see in daily lives. He begins each canvas without the need for preliminary sketching, building directly from an irregular arrangement to form intricate and disciplinary structures. Layers of geometric shapes, different visual effects, and a more progressive finer language of elements are then constructed through the increasingly and continuously intricated geometries, provoked from duplication of lines.

朱詞權，從多倫多回流香港的手繪圖像及插畫藝術家, 畢業於多倫多大學，主修視覺藝術及美術史。他喜歡將一些在社會生活常見的事與物和以不同物料加上幾何化的繪圖呈現，其作品著重於用“線”作為一主要媒體, 透過不規則的排列，會慢慢變成看似有規律的幾何構圖，繼而進一步地發展並顯現出一個寬廣簡潔且帶有科學結構的圖像視角。為了想探索“線”的可能性以及延續性，在勾畫每幅作品都刻意的不進行初步草圖，直接依從感覺，隨意地重複勾畫排列著“線”, 呈現出不同的幾何形狀的形態改變和以及一種漸進式的視覺效果，從而解構二維平面是如何從最簡單的單一線條裡衍生的。
